Chisinau hosts an International Conference at theme: “The value of Cogeneration Plants for energy security and the efficiency of central heating. Solutions and problems.”

Cogeneration Plants, that generate electricity and heat, have the highest level of energy efficiency, and investment in such energy systems is urgently needed. This conclusion was reached by energy experts from Moldova and other countries who met in Chisinau during the International Conference.

Topics discussed include:

  • Presentation of a systematic study of thermal power plants in Chisinau and their development;
  • Development of strategies at the national level to increase the energy generated by cogeneration;
  • Harnessing the potential of existing CPs and their expansion;
  • The role of all parties involved, including local authorities, in ensuring energy security and the efficiency of district heating, etc.

The event was opened by the Director of the Public Property Agency, Mikhail Rusu, who emphasized the important role of Termoelectrica in ensuring national energy security: “The benefits of district heating and cogeneration are numerous. Therefore, we must continue to strive to ensure that there are as many of these projects as possible - to have a financially viable central heating system and put the consumer in the first place. In addition, with the support of government agencies and development partners, we strive to make every effort to ensure the effectiveness of this system, supporting companies such as Termoelectrica, and actively participating in the development of this sector.

Anna Akhalkatsi, Director of the World Bank Office in Moldova, praised the results of Termoelectrica to improve the services provided: “I would like to note the important role that the Termoelectrica administration plays in the implementation of a successful project supported by the World Bank. At the same time, we are pleased to work with Termoelectrica to connect the World Bank's office in Chisinau to a centralized heating system. ”

In this context, the Director of Termoelectrica, Vyacheslav Eni, confirmed that ensuring the country's energy security is a matter of particular importance, especially for the Republic of Moldova, where heat and power plants are the main sources of energy. a country that requires significant investments: “After 4 years, during which we focused mainly on the restoration and revival of the Chisinau Centralized Heat and Power System, we understand that the next important step is production,” said Vyacheslav Eni.

On the other hand, MEPIU (Moldova Energy Projects Implementation Unit) Director Aurelia Samson stated that over four years of activity through completed projects Termoelectrica has been focusing on quality services and consumer safety: “MEPIU and the World Bank are loyal partners of Termoelectrica in implementing one of the most important energy projects, which has become an example of good practice. After four years of implementation, we see tangible results. ”

The statement was also supported by the World Bank's chief specialist, Sandu Gidirim, who in his presentation entitled “Research on Optimization of the Central Heating System of Chisinau” mentioned that the World Bank focuses on development in its projects, all investments are focused on this principle, and the energy sector of the Republic of Moldova is in dire need in modernization to provide citizens with quality services on an ongoing basis.

“Given European practice, as sources of energy production, cogeneration plants have achieved practical efficiency of 90%, and distributed production is the best solution for energy supply and very well suited for Chisinau,” concluded Vasile Muntenita, president of COGEN Romania.

The event, organized by Termoelectrica, was attended by over 100 guests, energy specialists, representatives of the central and local public administration, energy operators from both Moldova and abroad, as well as representatives of academia and civil society.

This is the third conference in a row, which aims to create a platform for communication, debate and interaction to identify opportunities for modernization and development of the national energy system and the provision of high-quality energy services to citizens.
