Engineers and technicians of the company “Horus” have completed a new successful project – the capital repair of the turbine and generator of the energy block no. 3, Source 1 from "Termoelectrica" Joint Stock Company. Thanks to these works, the city of Chisinau will be fully provided with heat in the next cold season. The main source of cogeneration in the country, which produces heat and electricity, will start the new heating season with two prepared energy blocks (block no. 1 modernized in 2020 and block no. 3, overhauled in 2022). In a press conference held today, October 25, Mihai Godea, director for development at the group of companies “Horus” and Mihai Pasecinic, technical director “Horus Energy” provided details about how this contract was realized in very narrow terms.
Mihai Godea pointed out that, due to the high professionalism and dedication of the “Horus” specialists, who worked in several shifts, including on rest days, the capital repair works of Block no. 3, Source 1, started in mid-summer, advanced quickly and finished within the deadline. In the context in which, for objective reasons, this season “Termoelectrica” Joint Stock Company will operate on alternative fuel – fuel oil, as a result of the repair works, the company could save about 20 million lei, an amount almost four times higher than the full value of the contract made by “Horus”. At the same time, Mihai Godea pointed out that the use of fuel oil as fuel would require, at the end of the heating season, possible additional repair works on the combustion surfaces, which will lose their efficiency.
Technical director “Horus Energy” Mihai Pasecinic highlighted the main works performed by specialists within the respective project. Mihai Pasecinic: “The dismantling and diagnosis of the cylinders of the turbine and the electric generator was carried out. Diagnosis and special surface preparation actions were carried out for high-pressure cylinder metal control. An important type of work is related to the Assembly, Transportation and balancing of the generator rotor. The turbine bodies and rotors were also overhauled. We overhauled the steam distribution system and the turbine control system. Our colleagues cleaned the turbine lubrication system and replaced the hydrogen seals with the premiere grinding of the generator ridges. In the same way, the technical reports were prepared to determine the extension of the exploitation period of the elements subjected to temperatures above 400 0C of the turbine.”
As a result of these works, the operating period of the turbogenerator is extended, but also increases the energy efficiency in its operation with the return to the designed nominal operating parameters.
Turbine no. 3 can take over a thermal load of 100 Gcal/h and electric power of 80 MW and by including the additional boilers another 60 Gcal/h can be taken over.
Block no. 3 supplies more than 30% of the Chisinau city consumers with thermal energy and hot water.
In the context of the electricity crisis that Moldova is now going through, Mihai Godea also highlighted that Moldova missed the chance to increase its own electricity production by canceling the tender for the modernization of the energy block no.2, Source 1, “Termoelectrica” Joint Stock Company, works that now “Horus” going to make. Mihai Godea: "All our warnings, launched this spring, that if the tender for the modernization of bl. 2 at "Termoelectrica" is cancelled, we will have to pay additional billions of lei, are now coming true. The political reason invoked at the time for canceling the tender, such as offering around 2 million euros to a Russian company, part of the consortium, seems child's play in addition to the more than 2.5 billion lei, which we have already paid from the state budget of the Russian company "Gazprom". Not to mention the hundreds of millions of lei that we pay for the electricity produced on the left side of the Dniester, also by a Russian company.
In this crisis situation, we consider it absolutely necessary to combine the efforts of public institutions, the business environment and the community of experts in the field, in order to identify sustainable solutions in order to ensure the country's energy security. We also propose the urgent initiation of the modernization process of blocks 2 and 3, and the modernization of medium and high pressure cylinders, in order to increase the electricity production capacity by about 40 MW”.
